I had never flown until September of 2017. I was so nervous and my anxiety had me over analyzing every little tid bit of what could go wrong. Our very first time flying and we made it an international trip. That’s right, the first time being on a plan and we had booked a trip overseas. I took the saying “Go big or go home” quiet literal. I was so excited to board my first plane and fly off into the distance, but was unsure on what I brought in my personal item. It’s human nature though to doubt your packing abilities. Below I’ve listed things that I found necessary to pack in my personal item.
Remember you’ll be lugging this carry on through the airport plus a personal item if you choose to bring one. Keep it small and simple.
I’m attached to my phone so of course it was a crucial item for me. I also recommend a small laptop or tablet.
Tablets would be ideal. Sometimes your laptop can be a bit big and you have to go through extra steps when going through security.
Another item I highly recommend is a decent pair of headphones. The airlines usually provide a small cheap pair, but if you are picky with the kind that goes in your ear you’ll want to bring your own.
You will also want to bring an external battery charger.
Airports will have charging stations, but most of the time these are already taken.
Personal Item: AmazonBasics Ultralight Packable Day Pack
Headphones: Beats Solo 3 Wireless (a gift from my husband/ any headphones will do)
Battery Charger: KMASHI External Battery, Compact 5000mAh Portable Charger Power Bank Pack for iPhone 6S 6 Plus (I know it says for Iphone, but I have an Android and it did just fine.)
Planes are dry and can make you feel icky. Keeping with the minimal theme you won’t want to pack items you don’t need.
I found that I only needed a select few items.
Really good moisturizer
Breath mints, gum, or small dental wisps to freshen your breath.
I’m not one to go with out makeup but girls you seriously don’t need to worry about that on a flight. You’ll probably be tired and you’ll just want your skin to feel good. Leave the makeup in your carry on if you want it close by.
Items I used:
Dental Wisp/ gum: Colgate MaxFresh Wisp Disposable Mini Toothbrush, Peppermint – 4 Count or any gum.
My favorite part! Like any normal human, I LOVE food. Remember that you may be sitting for a while during your flight. You’ll want to pack something that will keep you full if you don’t like airline food, but kind of healthy. I recommend
Trail mix, granola bars, beef jerky, and an empty water bottle.
The water bottle is crucial. You will get really dehydrated. Airlines usually offer free refreshments depending on how long your flight time is. The cups are small and they have to take them up when it gets close to landing. You will be able to fill your bottle up once you pass through security.
If you bring food onto the plane that
you bought from the airport I suggest making it a somewhat healthy choice and skipping the greasy fast food. You don’t want to spend your time in the cubbyhole they call an airplane toilet.
Snacks we packed:
Welch’s Fruit Snacks, Mixed Fruits, 0.9 Oz, 40 Ct (Not so healthy, but hey I’m a kid at heart)
Graze Snack Dark Chocolate Cherry Tart (My personal Fav)
These are just a few of the items we brought. We will be changing it up on our next trip.
Our water bottle was from Amazon: INTEY Collapsible Silicone Water Bottle with Filter – Leak Proof Cap – BPA Free, 25 Oz for Outdoors
The bottle came with a filter inside and it was collapsible which made it more convenient. Having a filter was the main reason I got it, but it made it difficult to drink. There wasn’t an adequate flow.
Two other items I highly recommend is a good book and a journal (with a pen). The pen will be useful if you go through customs. You will be filling out forms.
I didn’t bring a book on this trip and I wish I had. I recommend a journal for writing down things that happen on your trip. I made little entries on my phone while sitting in the airport and wish I brought my journal. If your someone who doesn’t want to forget how you felt in a specific moment then you’ll need a journal.
